The main purpose of the music ministry is to worship God. We incorporate many different styles of music in our expressions of worship, from contemporary to traditional. More important than the style of the music is the spirit of our worship. In the Bible, the book of John says, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking to worship Him.” The center of worship is God. He is our “audience of One,” the giver and receiver of worship. True worship is all about Him!

 

We provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn and explore music:

• Choir practice - Wednesdays 6 p.m.
• Praise Team practice - Wednesdays 8 p.m.

 

What is Worship?

We can worship God anywhere…at home, outdoors or in our cars. Psalm 95 offers some instruction on how to better worship God at church. There are some choices we can make that will make a difference in focusing on God during worship.

 

1. “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.” (Psalm 95:1)

How should we feel when we worship? Should we get “goose bumps”? Should we feel happy? As we focus on worshiping the living God, we can get more into worship, and all of us can even experience different emotions at different times during worship. Yes, it is O.K. to be joyful when we worship the Lord!

 

2. “Let us come before Him with thanksgiving…” (Psalm 95:2)

What are you thankful for? What person, what blessing, what event are you thankful for? What characteristic of God are you thankful for? Even though everything in our lives may not be perfect, when we offer thanks to God, we put things in the right perspective. Move from complaining to thanking our Creator!

 

3. “Let us…extol Him with music and song.” (Psalm 95:2)

Sing to God! He loves it when we praise His name; He even inhabits the praises of His people! When we sing, we are not performing, but expressing our hearts to God. Sing with joy, sing aloud and with enthusiasm! Personalize the words of the songs – think of them as prayers to God. They are much more than just words on a page. Think about what the words mean to your life.

 

4. “Come, let us worship Him and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord who made us." (Psalm 95:6)

The words kneel and worship lead us to first humble ourselves in reverence. Have humility before Him; He is an awesome God! Also, are we preparing ourselves before we come to worship? Do we have our minds on worship and being reverent and humble before God as we begin to sing? Or are we thinking on things of the world? Are we worried about anything that may distract us from Him? Listen to some praise music or hymns on the way to church. Pray and read the Bible in preparation. Focus on Him while entering the place of worship as the music is playing. Pray (talk silently) to God during the service. He’s the One we’ve come to worship! Don’t just talk about Him, talk to Him! We have a great responsibility in what happens in worship. Come prepared to worship and offer our praise!

 

5. “…if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…” (Psalm 95:7-8)

Yes, the Lord can speak to us, especially in worship! Listen to hear His voice, and trust that He has only the best plans for you; to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
